A dramatic image, captured in the nick of time, after the downpour that had seemingly ruined any possibility of a decent image disappeared in the blink of an eye to leave a spectacular scene.
I'd driven to my intended location, about an hour away from home, only to be greeted by heavy cloud and rain on my arrival. I checked the radar and could see that there didnt appear to be much hope of it clearing before sunset so decided to head home. As I drove on the freeway I could see a slight sliver of light appearing on the horizon, in the opposite direction, so took a chance and headed towards it as I knew this location was in the vicinity. Trouble was the light was fading and it would be a race to get there and set up before it faded completely. Luckily the road gods were with me and I managed to reach my destination with about 5 minutes until sunset, which just gave me enough time to find a pleasing composition, set up my gear and precariously balance at the waters edge. I've learnt in photgraphy that even on the wettest and darkest days, there's always a chance of some decent light.
Location - Lerderderg State Park, VIC.
