Ghost Town Sunset
The old chapel is one of only a few remaining buildings left in the old mining community of Steiglitz, at the foot of the Brisbane Ranges in Victoria. There is a real sense of history here and the land almost whispers to you with the voices of the hundreds, if not thousands of miners once here, all trying to make their fortunes from the earth. The hardships they faced, not only from the harsh climate, but the terrain and even the deafening noise of the machinery puts a lot of the 'first world problems' we face today into perspective. I wanted to keep this image simple, with the chapel as the focal point in a photographic sense as it was in the community sense all those years ago, and then let the viewers imagination wander back through the centuries and build their own picture of how this settlement used to be.
Location - Steiglitz, VIC.
