I've always felt a strong affinity with the ocean. Its strange given I grew up in an inland town in the UK where the only time I got to visit the coast was during our annual 2 week family summer vacation, but I still remember being awed by the constant changing of the tides and the ever present movement on the surface.
Luckily for me now, I live within a 5 minute drive of a beach, and can head there at will, however I still feel deep sense of satisfaction when I see the waves for the first time. For this particular image, the difficulty I had was the fading light and the dark rocks giving me a shutter speed that provided too much blur in the water. I wanted to be able to show the effect of the water washing over the rocks as well and maintaining the forms of the waves in the distance. I managed to achieve the exact effect I was after by increasing the sensitivity of cameras' sensor to light, which allowed a quicker shutter speed and an image to be captured that displays the power and serenity of the sea in one shot.
