For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of landscape photography is the feeling you get when after many many visits to a particular location, you are treated to the spectacular light you had hoped you would receive on each of those previous trips but didn't.

This has been the case with every journey I've made to Altona, where seemingly ideal conditions dissolve away or potential light disappears instantly almost the second I step foot on the sand.

Not being one to give up, early in 2018, I could see yet another amazing sunset developing overhead, so once again headed to the pier with this shot in mind.  Predictably, the clouds began to part, and I began looking at other compositions, so it wouldnt be a complete waste of time.  Yet from nowhere the sky lit up with amazing pastel pinks, oranges and yellows which left me rushing to get my gear back to where I had originally set up, and luckily for me these wonderful tones held on long enough to capture the image I had waited so long for.

    Location - Altona Beach, VIC.
