Bellarine Waves
  • Bellarine Waves

During the winter of 2022 my family and I left the urban sprawl of Melbourne and headed for a sea change to the Bellarine Peninsula, 75 minutes south of where we had been for the past 16 years.  Its an area I know well, having been a go-to location when I just needed to get out of the city and get into nature.  The downside to that was the journey time and yet now this is all on my doorstep, so when I needed a break from unpacking boxes a few days after we'd moved I knew I could head straigh here and spend a little more time refining compositions.  On this particular winter afternoon the spray from the incoming waves was providing a wonderful soft haze to the air and as I stood atop the cliff I knew this would make a lovely atmospheric scene.  I was more than happy with the image as it was and yet during processing I realised that I had also captured a few surfers on the beach looking for that last wave of the day.
