A nostalgic scene captured on New Years Day2021, showcasing the old Pier at Altona Beach, in Melbourne's inner-west.  Speaking to many locals who see this image, it seems as though it was a right of passage for them to jump off the end into the sea on such hot summer evenings, and it would be hard to guess how many would have done so over the years.  The pier succumbed to a winter storm a few months later, and has since been replaced but those golden memories live on.
