Ocean Spirit
  • Ocean Spirit

Regardless of how many times I've stood looking out to sea, I'm still mesmerised by the power and beauty of the ocean.  It serves to remind us how small we physically are and just how much of our planet we are yet to truly understand.  For this particular image I had headed to this nearby location as I knew it would provide a good opportunity to photograph the lightning that the passing storm had threatened to unleash on the area.  Unfortunately, this didn't materialise but as the ferocity began to subside and clouds part, a rainbow began to emerge on the horizon.  The clouds obscured the majority of it but the beams that were left provided a sharp focal point and one that seemed to be created by a higher power.  Fortunately the storm clouds were travelling on the same trajectory as the setting sun which meant the rainbow stayed in this position for an unusually long time and allowed me to refine a composition and wait for the light to illuminate the rock at the same time as a perfect wave hit.

Location - Black Rocks, Bellarine Peninsula VIC.
