I had passed this rugged old farmhouse on a number of occasions travelling between Melbourne and Geelong and knew exactly the sort of image I felt it would suit.  With the facade facing west, I envisaged the warm sunset light illuminating the brickwork whilst a brooding, stormy sky would provide the contrast behind, allowing the subject to stand out.  One late winter afternoon in 2025 I saw that the conditions would be perfect to attempt this composition so headed out with the aim of capturing what I had seen in my mind's eye.
The frequent showers that past by gave me enough opportunity to refine the final image, as originally the shadow of the 5G mast behind me was cast too far into the scene, however moving further to the right removed this distraction at which point it was up to nature to provide the illumination.  To my great pleasure, as the sun set, a rainbow fleetingly appeared right behind the house adding that vital, dramatic element I was after.
