Ever since I discovered this hidden location in Williamstown, I've envisaged a shot of one of the old, crumbling jetties engulfed by the striking colours of an intense sunset or sunrise. I've been here countless times and yet was never blessed with the perfect light I needed. Far from being disheartened, this only spurred me on to make sure I was in the right place for when the magic conditions do happen, which occurred one summer Friday evening in 2019. The day had been cloudy, with little sign of any potential decent light, however as I put my kids to bed I could see a small break on the horizon and new I had to act fast. After finishing the bedtime story, I grabbed my gear and headed out to this location which, luckily is only a few minutes drive from my house, and set up ready to take the image. The clouds above, formed fantastic patterns and yet the light seemed to be washed out. However, a few minutes after the sun had set, the intense glow began illuminating the sky, creating such an intense pallet of colours that really is a privilege to witness, especially after being patient for so long.
